Hellenistic Void of Course Moon
Void of Course Moon Definitions
There is more than one definition for the Void of Course Moon across various astrological traditions. One of the less common versions is happening the first week of October!
Generally, the Void of Course Moon will not complete any aspects to other planets for a certain number of degrees.
By Hellenistic definition, the Moon will not complete a Ptolemaic aspect to another visible planet in the following 30 degrees, regardless* of sign boundaries.(1)
EXACT TIMING:
10/5 - 5:45 PM CST to 10/7 9:40 PM CST
*If you’re farther east than EST, this will extend into the 8th of October.
Symbolism of the Void of Course Moon
The Moon signifies what is needed for sustenance and growth, and is responsible for connecting the other planets to each other, and to us. These connections are sort of like handholds to "work with the energies". A Void of Course Moon is without these connections.
The Greek word used for this condition is kenodromia, which translates to a few possible phrases including but not limited to (1,2):
"empty course"
"moving toward nothingness"
"running in the emptiness"
"running in the void"
These phrases speak explicitly to the Moon's circumstance of moving along in a space that lacks potential substance and/or support. We can imagine what we feel like when we feel unsupported, and how hard it is to accomplish things in that state. It may be that the Moon isn't getting impeded by certain planets. But it also means the Moon isn't getting support, structure, or input from other planets that could guide or help it if needed.
Recommendations
For these days, focus more on:
being still/quiet, reflective or spiritual activities, or resting
spending priceless moments with people you love
pursuing growth or experience that can't be counted, measured or otherwise quantified
(Interestingly, this is incongruent with the Full Moon advice I'd typically be giving for these dates.)
Focus less on:
driving tangible, material-world productivity
starting new projects or initiating things that you want to successfully grow
It may be harder to root things into this sky, or to carry out actions to completion.
